Two-dimensional Incompressible Viscous Flow around a Small Obstacle
In this work we study the asymptotic behavior of viscous incompressible 2D flow in the exterior of a small material obstacle. We fix the initial vorticity ω0 and the circulation γ of the initial flow around the obstacle. We prove that, if γ is sufficiently small, the limit flow satisfies the full-plane Navier-Stokes system, with initial vorticity ω0 + γδ, where δ is the standard Dirac measure. ...
متن کاملSimulation of the viscous flow around a propeller using a dynamic overlapping grid approach
An unsteady RANSE code featuring dynamic overlapping grids capability is tested for the study of the flow past a rotating propeller. The propeller is considered both in open water and behind a hull. For the former case a good agreement with experimental open water curves is obtained. For the second test case preliminary results, i.e. obtained with a relatively coarse mesh, are presented that gi...
متن کاملTwo Dimensional Incompressible Viscous Flow Around a Thin Obstacle Tending to a Curve
In [9] the author considered the two dimensional Euler equations in the exterior of a thin obstacle shrinking to a curve and determined the limit velocity. In the present work, we consider the same problem in the viscous case, proving convergence to a solution of the Navier-Stokes equations in the exterior of a curve. The uniqueness of the limit solution is also shown.
متن کاملNumerical Computation of a Viscous Flow around a Circular Cylinder on a Cartesian Grid
We introduce a novel cut-cell Cartesian grid method that preserves the spectral properties of convection and diffusion. That is, convection is discretised by a skewsymmetric operator and diffusion is approximated by a symmetric positive-definite coefficient matrix. Such a symmetry-preserving discretisation of the Navier-Stokes equations is stable on any grid, and conserves the mass, momentum an...
متن کاملNumerical Methods for Incompressible Viscous Flow
We present an overview of the most common numerical solution strategies for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations, including fully implicit formulations, artificial compressibility methods, penalty formulations, and operator splitting methods (pressure/velocity correction, projection methods). A unified framework that explains popular operator splitting methods as special cases of a fully ...
